Bacterial vaginosis is an imbalance of this flora, where certain bacteria become predominant. It can lead to unusual vaginal discharge, sometimes accompanied by a more pronounced odor.

Vaginitis vs vaginosis, what is the difference?
Yeast vaginitis — Usually caused by a fungus named Candida. Typical symptoms: significant itching, thick white discharge, redness, and irritation.
Bacterial vaginosis — Caused by an imbalance of the vaginal flora, where certain bacteria become predominant. Typical symptoms: homogeneous grayish or whitish discharge accompanied by a fishy odor, often more pronounced after sexual intercourse.
Trichomonas vaginitis — Caused by the sexually transmitted parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. Typical symptoms: yellowish or greenish discharge, more pronounced odor, and irritation.
Gonorrhea and chlamydia — Sexually transmitted bacterial infections. Typical symptoms: abnormal vaginal discharge, burning during urination, pelvic pain, or bleeding between periods, but often asymptomatic.
