Warts (genital warts) are skin growths caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). They appear on the genitals, anus, or surrounding areas. Although they are mostly benign, they can be uncomfortable, multiply, and be transmitted through sexual contact. The treatment of condylomas may require several sessions to completely eliminate the lesions. Even after a successful treatment, the virus remains in the body and condylomas may reappear. Vaccination against HPV helps prevent infection by the most common strains responsible for condylomas and would also help reduce the risk of recurrence. It is recommended to inform your partner(s) so that they can also be evaluated.
